Families provide the foundation for young children to grow and learn. Here you will find support and resources that will assist families in identifying a young child with special needs and the services available.

These resources are designed to help families make good decisions about early intervention services. As you begin the early intervention process, remember that family involvement is linked to positive developmental and educational outcomes for children.

Resources

The 5-part Parent Helper Handbook Series is a comprehensive guide to development in young children birth through age five. The overview is available in 16 different languages! The series includes handbooks on communication, cognition, socialization and motor development.

Birth to 3: A Guide to Early Intervention Services in Maryland- Research shows that early intervention makes a difference!   This guide is a valuable resource that helps families understand early intervention services in Maryland.  It is available in 15 different languages!

A Family Guide to Next Steps – This guide is an informational resource for families, who have children receiving early intervention services and who are determined eligible for preschool special education, as they choose to continue services through an IFSP or begin services through an IEP. Local Infants and Toddlers Programs will support families in making this choice. In accordance with IDEA 2004, 20 U.S.C. sec. 1435 and State policies and procedures, parents are required to receive this Annual Notice of the Extended IFSP Option to assist in decision-making.

Your Child Goes to PreKindergarten (download on the right) is a terrific guide to help prepare your child for Pre-K. This resource is also available in 12 different foreign languages.
